Affordable Osteopathy Treatment in London

Osteopathy is a holistic, hands-on approach to healthcare that focuses on the body’s structure and movement to support recovery and overall wellbeing. Osteopaths are officially recognised by the NHS as Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), alongside physiotherapists, radiographers, and other vital healthcare providers.

Using a combination of physical manipulation, stretching, and massage, osteopaths aim to:

  • Increase joint and muscle mobility
  • Relieve muscle tension
  • Reduce pain
  • Improve circulation
  • Support the body’s natural ability to heal

Osteopathy is based on the principle that your bones, muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues must function in harmony for you to feel well. No two patients are the same—osteopaths take the time to understand your daily habits, posture, movement, and environment to tailor a treatment plan that addresses your unique needs.

Osteopaths can manage or help with a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions and related symptoms, including:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Joint pain & stiffness
  • Headaches & migraines
  • Sports injuries
  • Postural issues
  • Arthritis & other degenerative conditions
  • Repetitive strain injuries
  • Pregnancy-related musculoskeletal discomfort

Osteopathy is generally considered to be safe when you’re pregnant and can help ease common discomforts like back pain, pelvic pain, carpal tunnel, and sciatica.

If you ever want to stop or change the treatment during your session, just tell us right away. We’re here to work with you and your comfort levels. Consent is always obtained prior to and during treatment, and can be withdrawn at any time.

During treatment, how you lie down depends on the technique and how far along you are in your pregnancy.

In the beginning stage, lying on your stomach might be okay. But as your pregnancy progresses, you’ll mostly lie on your side, sit up, or sometimes lie on your back with a pillow under your right hip.

Although osteopathy is usually safe during pregnancy, if your pregnancy is high risk, it’s best to check with your doctor, midwife, or obstetrician before getting any manual therapy, including osteopathy.

Yes, osteopathy is generally considered safe for children and babies when performed by qualified practitioners experienced in paediatric osteopathy.

Adverse outcomes in babies, infants and children (aged under 12 years) resulting from manual therapy clinical management approaches are very rare, based over the many decades that records have been maintained on the issue (Hayes and Bezilla 2006; Todd et al 2014). Few babies, infants or children have experienced an adverse outcome in existing research (Humphreys 2010; Driehuis et al 2019).

Please note that our osteopaths do not use manipulation (the ‘cracking’ of joints) on any baby, infant or child.

Consent is always obtained prior to and during treatment, and can be withdrawn at any time.

As we are a teaching clinic where treatments are undertaken by senior students we are unable to provide consultations through health insurance.  If you wish to seek osteopathic care via health insurance you can locate registered osteopaths via the General Osteopathic Council website.

The number of sessions needed varies depending on your individual condition, goals, and response to treatment.

During your initial consultation, your osteopath will assess your needs and develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to your specific requirements.

Typically, an adult might need 3-6 sessions over a period of several weeks, however if you have a longer term/chronic condition you may well require more sessions.

You are welcome to wear whatever you feel comfortable in. However, we  recommend that you wear loose or comfortable clothing. Alternatively, you can bring a pair of shorts and a vest or sports bra to change into. This is because we might need to to see if any other areas of your body might be related to your injury (for example, if lower back pain is related to poor hip function).

No. Patients are able to self-refer. You do not need to have a letter from your GP. Sometimes your GP may suggest you visit an osteopath. We are happy to accept such referrals. Sometimes after visiting the clinic we may recommend you make an appointment with your GP or we may write to your GP with your permission.

The teaching clinic is set up with mixed teams. Patient requests are noted, but cannot be guaranteed (with either the student or tutor).

Yes all our students are DBS checked.

LSO paedatric clinic

Osteopathy for Babies & Children

Since 2013 the LSO has run a teaching clinic seeing adults, children and babies at Mayfield House in Bethnal Green.

Our paediatric clinic is open every Thursday from 10am till 3pm with Yvette Taylor and Maria Hayes, both experienced osteopaths, who are qualified to treat babies, children and adults.

We have strong links with the paediatric teams in our local hospital and saw many babies who were referred to us by NHS personnel with great success.

On the day of your visit, full details are taken about the problem causing the issue(s) together with information about the pregnancy, delivery and family health. The baby’s carer is asked to undress the baby down to the nappy and Maria or Yvette together with a senior student will examine the baby to try to find the cause of the issue(s). We will discuss what we have found and where appropriate will suggest which type of treatment will be suitable. Treatment of babies is very gentle and they often relax and sleep well after treatment.
